What are the Principles:
  • “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam”

  • (Sanskrit: वसुधैव कुटुम्बकम. from “vasudha”, the earth; “iva”, is ; and “kutumbakam”, family) is a Sanskrit phrase that means that the whole world is one single family. The concept originates in the Vedic scripture Maha Upanishad (Chapter 6, Verse 72):
  •  “Sarve bhavantu sukhinah sarve santu niramaya. Sarve bhadhrani pashayantu ma kaschit duhkha bhaag bhaveet (सर्वे भवन्तु सुखिनः सर्वे सन्तु निरामया। सर्वे भद्राणि पश्यन्तु मा कश्चित् दुःखभाग् भवेत्।।“

  • This is the mantra or prayer done by Hindu for thousands of years for well-being of society. It prays that everybody be happy, healthy (disease free), witness auspicious happenings and nobody to face misery or distress. The prayer is wholesome and good for everybody. When everybody is happy and healthy, the universe shall be good place to live. The mantra spreads positive vibrations and create better environment for everybody.
  • ayam bandhurayam neti ganana laghuchetasam udaracharitanam tu vasudhaiva kutumbakam (अयं बन्धुरयं नेति गणना लघुचेतसां उदारचरितानां तु वसुधैव कुटुम्बकं)
  •
  • Only small men discriminate saying: One is a relative; the other is a stranger. For those who live magnanimously the entire world constitutes but a family.
Why such Principles:
  1. The basic idea behind is that whole universe is one cosmic body and made of one life energy.
  2. As per Hindu belief, the whole universe is composed of two materials, one of which they call Âkâsha and other is Prana. Akasha becomes air, liquid, gas, the sun, the earth, the moon, the stars, the comets, the human body, the animal body, the plants, every form that we see, everything that can be sensed, everything that exists. Physically this universe is one. There is no difference in non-living and living beings.
  3. Prana (not breath) manifests as motion, gravitation force, and sum total of the cosmic energy. The Prana is vital force that is manifesting as the actions of the body, as the nerve currents, as thought force.
  4. The positive thoughts, actions and words spread positive vibrations to such persons or the living beings for whom these are expressed, acted upon or said. Negativity (in thought, action and words) creates a karmic account and Positivity (in thought, action and words) clears past karmic account. It is karmic accounts which transmit with Atma.
  5. The karmic accounts decide the next life and different species in living being viz. Plant, animal, human being etc.
  6. The principle has its basis in birth of large number of species borne in the universe.

Hence, we are part of one body and injury by thought, act or word to anybody, may cause injury to self only. Therefore, it is in the interest of everybody to spread positive vibrations.

Saint Kabir has said:
“Jo toko kaanta buve,taahe bov tu phool Tohe phool ko phool hai, taahe hai tirsool (जो तोको काँटा बुवे ताहे बोव तू फूल |तोहे फूल को फूल है ताहे है तिरसूल)

For those who sow thorns for you, you should sow a flower
For you flower’s a flower but, for them it’s a trident.
