When the Kansa decided to perform Dhanush Yajna to increase his age and to kill enemies, he invited Nand along with his sons. For this, he sent Akroor ji to Gokul. He asked the wrestlers to kill Krishna & Balrama on their arrival. Shri Krishna and Balrama came along with Akroorji.

Stories of Shri Krishna in Mathura:
  1. While Krishna and Balarama were walking through the streets of Mathura, they met a washer man carrying various garments of Kansa. Krishna asked him some clothing and promised to award him all good fortune. Washer man talked very rudely and refused to give cloths. Shri Krishna became very angry and killed him.
  2. They later met a florist. The florist gave Krishna and his friends beautiful garlands.
  3. Shri Krishna and his friends met Kubja in Mathura. Kubja had three body parts clumsy. She was carrying paste of sandalwood in a dish. She gave sandalwood paste to Shri Krishna. Shri Krishna felt happy. Shri Krishna thought, she has decorated him and in return, he cured her body parts. She became beautiful. Sandalwood paste and salutation make the person polite.
  4. They moved further and reached the Dhanush arena which was heavily guarded. Shri Krishna broke the Dhanush and beat the Kansa’s servants. When Kamsa heard the bow break and heard how the guards had been killed, he partially realized the power of the Supreme Lord.
  5. Next day, Shri Krishna and Balarama arrived at the gateway of the arena. Kuvlyapeed elephant with a rider blocked their path. Shri Krishna told the elephant’s caretaker to clear the path, but the man became angry and provoked the elephant to charge Krishna. Krishna moved around the elephant, dragged it by its tail, tripped it and finally killed both the elephant and its rider.
  6. Thereafter, Shri Krishna and Balrama went to royal assembly of Kansa. In the arena, the famous champion wrestlers Chandoor and Mushtaka approached Shri Krishna and Balrama and challenged them for wrestling. Shri Krishna killed Chandoor (kama) and Balrama killed Mushtaka (krodha).
  7. Kansa was always remembering Shri Krishna out of enmity. Shri Krishna released Kansa by killing him and met Vasudev and Devaki in prison.
  8. Shri Krishna handed over the kingdom of Mathura to Ugrasena, father of Kansa. Before this, King Ugrasena had overthrown from power by his own son Kansa and sentenced to prison along with his sister Devaki and her husband Vasudeva to prison.
  9. After this, Vasudev and Devaki sent Shri Krishna to the ashram of Sandipani Rishi for the Yajnopaveet rites, where he learned sixty-four arts in sixty-four days.
After initiation, Krishna spoke of giving Guru Dakshina to Gurmata. On this, Gurumata considered Krishna as unique and asked for his son back in Guru Dakshina, who died by drowning in the ocean during Prabhas tour. Obeying Gurumata, Krishna ripped the stomach of a demon named Shankachakunda in the sea and pulled out son of Guru and a conch, which was called "Panchajanya".
  1. After completing his studies, Shri Krishna came to Mathura and stayed there for fourteen years. After that, he went Dwarka where he lived for one hundred years.
  2. Shri Krishna met Sudama in Gurukul (School). Sudama was a poor Brahmin from Saurashtra, Gujarat. Sudama means the person who has restraint the sense organs. Sudama was self-controlled person. Self-control and renunciation should be increased continuously.
  3. After the death of Kansa, his wives, Asti and Prapti came to home of their father, Jarasandh. Jarasandh attacked Mathura seventeen times and got defeated by Shri Krishna. Eighteenth time, Jarasandh brought Kalyavan also. Kalyavan was blessed by Brahma ji that no Yadav could kill him. Shri Krishna ran and Kalyavan followed him. Shri Krishna reached in the cave of Pravarshan Mount where King Muchukund was doing Tapasya (Penance). Kalyavan hit the Muchukund in anger. Muchukund opened the eyes and saw Kalyavan. Kalyavan burnt alive by the sight of Muchukund.

When Muchukund saw Shri Krishna, he requested him for undistracted Bhakti (devotion). Shri Krishna said, “Muchukund! You cannot get undistracted devotion in this life; in youth, you were extremely        lustful or libidinous and luxurious”. Hence, he has to take one more birth. In next birth, he would get birth in Brahmin family and would get undistracted devotion. Muchukund did hard penance and born as Narsingh Mehta in Kalyug.

Thereafter, Shri Krishna preferred to leave Mathura in the interest of Mathura habitants. He left for Okha, Gujarat. BalKrishna stayed up to the age of eleven years in Gokul and thereafter up to the age of twenty five years in Mathura.

Spiritual Significance:
  1. Our mind is clumsy due to Kama, Krodha and lobha. By worshipping almighty, mind purifies. If mind serves Kansa (demonic person), it becomes twisted.
  2. The elephant was symbol of Mada.
